Addition of fish

Pond fish are not just aesthetically pleasing to look at - they play a vital role in maintaining a healthy, well-balanced and a diverse ecosystem.

Fish are great - it is so relaxing to look at them, they contribute to the pond's overall health by eating bugs and insect larvae and creating a more dynamic and vibrant ecosystem.

As far as pets go, fish do not cost much to keep and are quite lomaintenance. Goldfish varieties like comets or shubunkins and koi are most common choices for Australian ponds and water features.

Some of our key recommendations when it comes to fish maintenance:

  • It is key to only add as many fish to your pond or a water feature as your water filtration system can handle. Having too many fish in your pond can cause a water imbalance with excess fish waste disrupting the entire aquatic ecosystem.

  • We suggest to not overfeed your fish (yes, we know they always look hungry!) Remember, that if you give them more food than they can eat, the uneaten fish food is left to decay in the pond, causing excessive algae growth and making your pond murky and slimy.

  • Your pond must have adequate water filtration system installed to keep your fish healthy and well, alive. Have we ever had to deal with fishing out dead fish from a neglected pond for a client? Sadly, we have, and our job is to prevent that from happening to your pond - no matter what water feature we work on, we ensure that when our job is done, your pond is left clean and healthy (with no dead fish in it!)
