Let's be honest here - a garden pond without plants is a bit naked and exposed. Aquatic plants are not just absolutely stunning to look at, they also have a range of benefits for a well-balanced pond ecosystem.

Why are pond plants important?

  • Pond plants to control excessive algae growth by providing valuable natural water filtration and absorbing excess nutrients and pollutants from the water (algae tends to otherwise feed on all the nasties and may get out of control)

  • Aquatic plants provide shade and shelter for your fish, keeping temperature of the water cool and comfortable. Shade from the plants also helps to keep algae in check as too much direct sunlight can cause algae overgrowth.

  • Pond plants can help with water oxygenation and absorbing carbon dioxide. Plenty of oxygen in the water helps all the fish thrive.
